Baptism
Why Baptism?
At Mercy Church we believe that baptism is your next step in becoming a disciple of Jesus Christ. This is an exciting and important decision! Baptism cannot save you or make you a believer; rather it is a response to what God has already done in saving you through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. In Matthew 28:19, Jesus declares “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit….” So we follow through in baptism, as a believer, in a response of obedient worship to the command of King Jesus.
Baptism is symbolic of two essential aspects of your faith: 1) it symbolizes the new life that you have through Jesus Christ and that you desire to publicly identify with Him, and 2) it symbolizes your identification with a new body – the body of Christ.
What’s Next?
In order for you to be baptized at Mercy Church, we would like for you to understand both the process and the timeline. Our baptism services are a highlight of our church body and we schedule these services about 4 times per year. Because baptism is designed to be a public identification of your desire to follow Jesus, you will be baptized in front of our church body in the auditorium of our church. If you are interested in getting baptized, please complete the Next Steps section below.
